FiLMiC Pro is an amazing iPhone video app

FiLMiC Pro is a US$2.99 app that boosts your iPhone video as close to pro quality as it can get. The app allows selectable resolutions (1280×720, 640×480, 480×360) and a variety of frame rates like 30fps, 24fps all the way down to 1fps.

There are a number of great features to get you started. You can focus-lock on any point with your finger and lock the exposure the same way. This prevents the camera automation from “hunting” for the right settings. FiLMiC also offers color bars and a personalized slate.

Exposure settings range from the whole frame to a spot sample. A handy audio level meter is superimposed over the screen, and framing guides for 4:3, 16:9 and 2.35:1 aspect ratios keep on you track.

Movies can be saved to your camera roll, DropBox, YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook or Tumblr. I tried shooting some video and found the experience far better than the stock Camera app. Of course FiLMiC can’t make the iPhone camera hardware any better than it is, but it surely brings in features that will push the camera on the iPhone to the limit. I was surprised how good the video looked.

CollabraCam App Turns iPhones Into A Full-Blown, Four-Camera Studio

This app wirelessly links the video cameras on four iPhones. Ready, camera two!

People are making movies, commercials, and music videos using nothing but the cameras on their iPhones nowadays, but what about directing live TV? You know, the kind of thing where a guy in headphones yells at a bunch of little screens representing multiple cameras: “Ready camera one! Take one! Zoom camera two!” Now, with an app called CollabraCam, you can wirelessly link four iPhone, iPad 2, or iPod Touch cameras and direct their coverage like you’re Holly Hunter in Broadcast News.

HDR Video for iPhone

Posted by on 2:30 pm in Multi-Media | 0 comments

A videographer who’s brought the distinctive look of high dynamic range (HDR) photography to video has released an iPhone app that tackles the technology.

Flare debuted today for $1.99 on the Apple App Store. It uses an image-processing algorithm to try to perform HDR duties such as bringing out details otherwise lost in the murk of shadowy areas. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t match up to the HDR video that developer Alaric Cole produced with two Canon 5D Mark II SLR cameras and a beam splitter as part of Soviet Montage Productions. It is, after all, just a single lowly mobile phone image sensor.

Animoto and Airplay

Posted by on 9:25 am in Multi-Media | 0 comments

Now that iOS 4.3 is out, Animoto videos on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch can now be played on your TV using an Apple TV and AirPlay. This works both for videos on Animoto.com accessed via the Safari browser for mobile or on our just-updated iPhone app.) Airplay is a great way to show off your HD videos on your TV without messing with wires or a BluRay player!

To get started, make sure your iOS, Animoto app, and Apple TV all are updated to the latest version. If your Apple TV and your iOS device are on the same wireless network, the AirPlay icon should appear on the video player in the bottom-right corner. Tap the icon to bring up a list of AirPlay-connected devices on which you can play your video and choose the one you wish to stream the video on. That’s it!

Play your Animoto videos through AirPlay. - Click here to read more.
